Barley news Ukraine: Barley exports drop 35% in Q1 2018/19

Barley exports from Ukraine decreased 35% in Q1 2018/19 (July-September), to 2.0 mln tonnes against 3.1 mln tonnes shipped abroad in the same period last year, UkrAgroConsult reported on October 23.

The first quarter of MY 2018/19 features some changes in the range of export destinations for Ukrainian barley. Apart from traditional major end markets (Saudi Arabia and China), this season’s top five biggest barley importers included Japan, Tunisia and Egypt. At the same time, compared to Q1 2017/18, barley exports to Saudi Arabia dropped by 5% and those to China fell by 55%.

On the other hand, Egypt already imported 64.2 thousand tonnes of Ukrainian barley in July-September following minimum imports in MY 2016/17 and no purchases in MY 2017/18. Barley supplies to Japan increased 275%, to Tunisia - up 249%.

September shipments of Ukrainian barley were 34% less than in the previous month.
